So you have just been feeding that cutie pie, milk, milk, and more milk and now she is grabbing everything on the table and trying to put it in her mouth. This may mean it is time to start thinking about “table food.” But what “real food” do you start with? Rice Cereal? That doesn’t look very appetizing and last year the FDA put out a statement that infant rice cereal had arsenic in it. Jarred baby food? That seems easy enough but really how much can I keep paying for all that packaging when those peas inside probably cost 15 cents. How about a little of what you are having? Make your own baby food. Ahh! I know that seems like a lot of work but with a little practice it can be as super easy. There are two ways of going about this.chicago baby food

  • You are very organized and can plan your meals and baby’s meals for the next week or two. Take a portion of your fruits and vegetables and individually steam them then using an immersion blender mix them up. Package and store in freezer for up to 3 months. (If you are this person I am very jealous of your planning skills)

  • 2) Feed him whatever you all happen to be having at that meal, when you cut up your banana or, bake your sweet potato, or steam your peas, prepare a portion for baby at the same time. Just keep your handy dandy immersion blender by your side. If you need to make it a little smoother add a little water or breast milk/formula to change the texture. There will be some left over when they first start testing that can be saved for a couple days in the refrigerator. (just remember it can take up to 15-20 times of introducing a food before a child likes it, except of course unless it’s chocolate 😉
